VR Ready / Orientation

Overview

The purpose of VR Ready / Curio Orientation is to empower students and educators to independently learn how to use their Meta Quest headset and the Curio app without requiring additional assistance from staff or team members. Users will start by watching an instructional video on a device (tablet, computer, phone, etc.), followed by the Curio Orientation Learning Experience, which enables them to master both the headset and core app functionalities.

We have videos available for students to use based on the specific headset they are using:

  • Click HERE for the video for Quest 3s devices

  • Click HERE for the video for Quest 3 device

Below are some of the topics that are covered in the video and learning experience:

  • Basic Headset Setup: Turning on the headset, adjusting volume, and lens settings.

  • Comfort Adjustments: Fitting the headset for users who wear glasses and adjusting straps and battery strap.

  • Boundary Setup: Configuring Room Scale and Stationary boundaries based on the available space.

  • Using VR Controls: Navigating the Meta Quick Action Menu and using hand tracking to operate VR features.

  • Curio App Navigation: Finding, logging into, and using the Curio app, including creating or joining rooms and accessing additional training resources.

Ways to Implement VR Ready / Curio Orientation:

Here are some of the methods that Curio partners are using to get their students VR Ready.

  • Set up a sign-up system for students and tutors to schedule time to come in before a session to complete VR Ready.

  • Compensate tutors for the extra time they spend arriving early at the learning center to get VR Ready.

  • Place a QR code on a laminated paper in the room, wall, or area where VR Ready is to be completed.  The QR code can also go on the side of the headset to be scanned by a phone and an iPad nearby. This QR code would allow students to access the video on their personal devices and keep a record of the link for future reference.

Below are QR codes you could use in the room or area designated for VR Ready.

The link below will open the 360° video tour on YouTube. For the best experience:
  1. Increase the video quality in the YouTube video player settings as high as possible (see image on right).
  2. Give the video a moment to load, especially at higher resolutions. Because 360° video files are huge, the video may look blurry at first if YouTube defaults to a lower resolution. If you have a slow internet connection, you may experience buffering when viewing in high quality.
  3. Make sure to ‘look around’ the 360° video using your mouse, finger, or phone movement.
