How We Develop Content
Curio’s ever-expanding library of immersive VR learning experiences is built through three key pathways—each designed to make high-quality educational content accessible, sustainable, and impactful for learners everywhere.
1. College Courses Build Directly on the Curio Platform
Are you an educator (teaching computer science, game design, 3D graphics, UI/UX, databases, networking, security, Unity game engine, etc.) wishing to provide your students with real-world building experience alongside a team of experienced developers?
We partner with college courses to create new VR features, tools, and content directly within the Curio platform. Students work under the guidance of their professors and alongside Curio’s development team, gaining hands-on, real-world experience that strengthens both their technical skills and their professional portfolios. By leveraging Curio’s existing infrastructure, software development kit (SDK), and professional support, student teams save 80% in time and cost compared to developing from scratch. This allows them to focus on creativity, problem-solving, and technical excellence while producing substantial, credible work.
Whether you already have an idea for a project, are interested in exploring options from the Curio roadmap, or would prefer being paired with a subject matter expert on your campus—or even from another campus—we have an endless number of opportunities available.
Benefits for students include:
- Resume-ready experience with professionally produced work
- Recognition inside the Curio XR app and/or on our website, ensuring proper attribution
- Real-world collaboration with Curio developers
- Full code access for deeper learning and integration
- Extensive documentation from a live, globally used application
- Unity coding experience (or 3D graphics, etc.) in a professional environment
- Ongoing portfolio relevance—Curio maintains the code after the project ends
- Build experiences with impact – Instead of creating a one-off VR game that quickly becomes outdated and forgotten, your students can develop immersive learning experiences that actually make a difference—benefiting middle school, high school, and college learners around the world for years to come.

2. Previously-Built, School-Created Content is Provided to Curio
Many institutions boast valuable VR content created in past projects—but without ongoing updates, these experiences stop working as technology changes. Instead of letting them fade into obscurity or break entirely, Curio revitalizes and hosts them on our platform, keeping them functional, up-to-date, and easy to distribute. Curio provides a permanent, professionally maintained home for educational content, ensuring the content remains accessible and impactful for learners across the globe.

3. Curio’s In-House Developers Build Content (Grant- & Partner-Funded)
Our in-house development team creates original VR experiences, often funded through grants, philanthropic foundations, school districts, universities, and other partners. In these collaborations, Curio subsidizes 80% of the one-time development cost and covers 100% of ongoing hosting, usage, and maintenance — making high-quality, custom VR content dramatically more affordable.
