VR Ready / Orientation

We collaborated with our university and school partners to create a program called VR Ready, also known as Curio Orientation. The goal of the program is to enable schools to get their students and educators ready for VR more efficiently.

Overview

The purpose of VR Ready / Curio Orientation is to empower students and educators to independently learn how to use their Meta Quest headset and the Curio app without requiring additional assistance from staff or team members. Users will start by watching an instructional video on a device (tablet, computer, phone, etc.), followed by the Curio Orientation Learning Experience, which enables them to master both the headset and core app functionalities.

Below are some of the topics that are covered in the video and learning experience:

Basic Headset Setup: Turning on the headset, adjusting volume, and lens settings.
Comfort Adjustments: Fitting the headset for users who wear glasses and adjusting straps and battery strap.
Boundary Setup: Configuring Room Scale and Stationary boundaries based on the available space.
Using VR Controls: Navigating the Meta Quick Action Menu and using hand tracking to operate VR features.
Curio App Navigation: Finding, logging into, and using the Curio app, including creating or joining rooms and accessing additional training resources.

Ways to Implement VR Ready / Curio Orientation:

Here are some of the methods that Curio partners are using to get their students VR Ready.

Set up a sign-up system for students and tutors to schedule time to come in before a session to complete VR Ready.
Compensate tutors for the extra time they spend arriving early at the learning center to get VR Ready.
Place a QR code on a laminated paper in the room, wall, or area where VR Ready is to be completed. The QR code can also go on the side of the headset to be scanned by a phone and an iPad nearby. This QR code would allow students to access the video on their personal devices and keep a record of the link for future reference.
